MODUPE is an experimental documentary that brings together an ensemble of batá drum, voice, and movement to create a new record in the archive of Afro-Cuban priestess of Yemayá, Amelia Pedroso. Moving through ritual, research, and rehearsal, the film honours Pedroso as ancestor and guide, summoning her spirit through sacred sound. Set within an interior dreamscape of deep blue waters, altars, and memory, MODUPE is a cinematic offering where the sound itself becomes the shrine. Commissioned by Made of Truth BFI Docs Society with support from The Elephant Trust, MODUPE is the first part of a spiritual trilogy.
